If you’re looking to take your family away to the city, it’s worth investigating a few choice attractions in advance. So, what are they?

Visit Liverpool – Chester Zoo

While it’s not strictly part of the city, it’s one of the country’s most famous and fully-featured zoos. With more than twenty thousand animals on display, many of which are endangered, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the natural world – and to marvel at just how wonderful it is. More than five hundred species are on display across 125 acres, with special exhibits going up throughout the year.

Things to do as a family – Liverpool Maritime Museum

Liverpool is a city with a great deal of seafaring history. There are few better ways to absorb that heritage than with a trip to the heart of Albert Dock, where you’ll find the Maritime Museum. This attraction will take you on a tour of the nautical history of the region, via a series of displays and exhibits. It’s a place where children will get a great deal of enjoyment too.

Imagine That! Science and Discovery Center

This is a place that will take kids on a guided tour through four distinct zones. While it might sound quite educational, the emphasis is firmly on the fun – and there’s a great deal of art to go alongside the science. The four zones are the Imagination Village, the Artbeatz Art Zone, the Bright Sparks Science Zone, and the Slime Factory. You get everything included for the price of admission, and you get to take everything you create home with you. Expect to spend three hours on the tour!

Liverpool Wild Shore

Wild Shore, or Adventure Dock as it’s also known, is a bouncy mobile waterpark set up in Duke’s Dock. There are waterslides, trampolines, rafts, barriers, and a great deal more besides these. It’s something that the entire family can join in with, provided that everyone’s older than six.

The World Museum

Liverpool’s World Museum provides insight into everything from the distant past to distant galaxies. You can learn about the pharaohs of Ancient Egypt – courtesy of a collection of objects dating from the time. Then there’s the Clore Natural History center, where you’ll find displayed a range of unusual artifacts – from hippo skulls to mammoth teeth.

There’s a planetarium, an aquarium, and a bug house with several colonies of leaf-cutter ants in residence. If you’re looking for a well-rounded voyage of discovery, this is an attraction that’s difficult to beat.

The museum is free, but it’s best to book in advance to avoid disappointment, as the museum has only limited capacity.
