Where to drink some good Romanian craft beer in Brasov

Where to drink craft beer in Brasov

Lately, I decided to focus more on experiences and the taste of a place than on general things-to-do posts. So, here is a product of that decision, a guide to the best places to drink craft beer in Brasov. It’s the natural follow-up for the Brasov attractions and the restaurants in Brasov articles. Plus, craft beer is one of the things I love to explore in a city 🙂

Where to drink craft beer in Brasov

I visit Brasov, at the gate of Transylvania, a few times a year, so I plan to add some more places to the list below. Meanwhile, here are a few places to have a good Romanian craft beer in Brasov city center:

Pilvax

Pilvax is a restaurant that focuses more on wine pairing than beer. However, they serve two good Romanian craft beers. One of them is made in Brasov: Bere Mustata (Moustache Beer), and you’ll see it on this list a lot. The other one – Csiki Sor, is made about 85 km north of Brasov, in a region with many Hungarian people. I strongly suggest the brown Csiki Barna.

Address: Michael Weiss 16, Brasov.

Bistro de L’Arte

Another cozy restaurant at the heart of Brasov, serving local Mustata Beer. Book ahead for this one, it’s very popular, especially during the weekends.

Address: Piața Enescu 11 Bis, Brasov

La Ceaun

We are still in the restaurants’ area, but La Ceaun serves a few types of Mustata Beer as well as another Romanian craft beer: Zaganu.

They have two locations in Brasov, one at Michael Weiss 27 and the other one in Piata Sfatului 11-12 (Council Square).

Tipografia

Tipografia is a coffee and tea house where you can have breakfast or bring your laptop and work for a few hours. At night, it becomes more of a bar. They brought together an interesting artsy community around them, and they often host concerts and other events.

In the craft beers department, they focus on Zaganu Beer and, of course, Mustata.

Address: Postavarului st., 1

Aftar Stube – Best Craft Beers in Brasov

My favorite place on the list also offers the best variety of craft beers. The house beer is Csiki Sor, and they serve draught lager, IPA, and brown Csiki Sor. But, in addition to Csiki Sor, they bring bottled craft beer from at least six more Romanian breweries.

You can try Kutuma beers from Cluj Napoca and a few craft beers made in Bucharest. My favorites are the ones from Ground Zero (try the Morning Glory IPA or the Imperial Fuck). My other favorites are the beers made by Hop Hooligans. They experiment a lot and always come out with different beers. Probably their most popular beer is Crowd Control IPA, but they also have a lot of limited editions. Check out their labels artwork too – it’s worth it.

Address: Alecu Russo st., 4, Brasov

Final thoughts on drinking craft beer in Brasov

As I said before, I plan to keep this list up to date as much as possible and add some new entries on my next visit to Brasov.

In the meantime, tell me about your favorite craft beers and places to try them in the comments below.
