Cinque Terre is a collection of five beautiful fishing villages linked by the majestic Sentiero Azzurro cliffside trail. The area of Italy offers a selection of tourist-friendly hiking trails (which range from short 3-hour walks to extensive multi-day treks). The most popular walking trail in the area is the Blue Path. The 12km walk starting in either Riomaggiore or Monterosso al Mara that covers all five of the old towns.

Tre Cime Di Lavaredo Loop Hike – Bucket List Walking Routes

This 10km hike is a moderate-difficulty walk that covers the stunning three peaks of Tre Cime Di Lavaredo. The peaks have become synonymous with Italy’s famed Dolomite mountain range. While the Tre Cime Di Lavaredo Loop Hike does feature some steeper sections (with a maximum elevation of 2454m), this 3-hour trek should not be too much of a challenge for fit, healthy and semi-experienced walkers.

Spectacular Hiking Trails in Italy – Lagazuoi Circuit Hike

With an eye-watering maximum elevation of 2800m, this 15km trek around the beautiful Mount Lagazuoi is not for the faint-hearted. The famous Lagazuoi Circuit Hike has a ‘difficult’ rating. It’s probably more suitable for more experienced walkers. Make sure that you pack plenty of food and water before setting out. Also, bring all the right gear (including sturdy boots and hiking poles for the steeper sections). If you’re brave enough to accept the challenge, you’ll soak up memorable views across Passo Falzarego, the Lagazuoi Tunnels, and Piccolo Lagazuoi.

Lake Sorapis Hike – Best Walking Trails in Italy

Encompassing a mix of woodland, rivers, unpaved paths, and rocky staircases, this fun, versatile 14km-round hike is centered around the idyllic Lake Sorapis. It holds a moderate rating on the difficulty scale. While you won’t need to be an expert climber to deal with the more treacherous sections of the journey, bear in mind that this rocky hike may not be suitable for wet weather due to slippery surfaces.

Italian Hiking Trails – Path Of The Gods Hike

Widely regarded as one of the best hikes in Italy, the Path of the Gods Hike is an easy walk from Bomerano to Positano. The trail offers some of the most beautiful views in the world. The difficulty of this 8km cliffside trail depends on whether you’re ascending or descending (there’s a notable elevation gain of 291m). The Path of Gods hiking trail is generally considered a safe bet for hikers of every experience level.

Final thoughts

Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and it also has some of the most spectacular hiking trails. I can’t imagine anything better than finishing a walking trail in one of the colorful Cinque Terre villages or at the top of the Italian Alps.
