Off the Beaten Path: 5 Unique Vacation Ideas in the US

unique vacation ideas in the us - camping on a texas beach

So, you want to book a vacation but need to be more impressed by the basic ideas that come to mind. This time, you want to do more than explore a beach or stay at a friendly resort. You want to have a unique vacation that you will remember forever, not just to brag to your friends about. We get that. Here are some off the beaten path unique vacation ideas in the US to piqué your interest.

Unique Vacation Ideas – Go Camping On Texas Beaches

Head to Texas and spend nights camping in a tent or RV, listening to the waves crash along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico. Enjoy camping amenities to make your camping experience as enjoyable as possible.

For a beachy take on traditional camping, skip the woods for the sand- and yes, you can still make s’mores as long as you’ve checked ahead with the beach camping regulations. Since Texas is so hot and dry, beach bonfires are typically allowed without much restriction, but check the regulations of your camping area in advance to verify that it is safe and okay to do so.

Vacation Ideas in the US – Visit The Ben & Jerry’s Factory

Put on your best pride outfits and take a trip to Waterbury, Vermont, to the longstanding LGBTQ+-supportive ice cream brand, Ben & Jerry’s, original ice cream factory. See how the ice cream is made at one of the factory tours offered at the original factory.

You’ll explore the gift shop, the graveyard of flavors, and an ice cream graveyard with departed flavors such as Wavy Gravy and Turtle Soup. Then, get some ice cream at the Scoop Shop, and grab some souvenirs there. After you’re done, burn off that ice cream by hiking Mount Mansfield, the tallest mountain in the state. It may not be Mount Etna, but it’s certainly something.

Off the Beaten Path Vacation Ideas – Underrated State Parks

You’ve considered volunteering for an olive farm, but it doesn’t feel vacation-y enough. You’ve heard about Yosemite and Yellowstone, but have you heard of the Valley of Fire? If the name isn’t intriguing enough, wait until you learn about the 42,000 acres of hiking available with views and accessibility to petrified trees and Aztec sandstone outcrops.

Take a chance on something wild, hike the Fire Wave Trail, and spot deep sandstone formations that look like ocean waves. You can also bring Fido, as this is a dog-friendly park with 24-hour camping accessibility. This underrated state park is in unsuspecting Clark County, NV.

Take A Train Ride Through The Rockies

If hiking isn’t your cup of tea, you can take a train and explore the Rockies in Denver, Colorado. Spend eight days on the Colorado Rail Adventure while taking in the sights of Great Sand Dunes National Park. You can even witness summits that span 14,000 feet above sea level. The best part? Your stay includes meals and lodging so that you’re all cared for as you explore Colorado’s attractions.

  1. Thanks for sharing, I have been to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory tour when I went to Vermont and really enjoyed it, I would have liked to buy a bowl, but I could not fit it my suitcase 🙂
